(only need big "spool and thread." ALSO: pull bicycle wheel over a bump: tie strings to each side axle on the wheel, and attach Newton scale. Pull with horizontal force over a small bump (1 cm or so) and measure force needed to just start over bump. It should be approx given by the following formula: ratio of pulling force to weight of wheel= sqrt(2h/R) where h is height of bump and R is radius of wheel. The approx holds if h/R is small. )
