PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Egg in a Sheet

Purpose:

To illustrate the concept of the impulse of a force.

Procedure:

Have two students hold the sheet vertically (make sure the fold on the bottom of the sheet is in the front). Throw egg at sheet. The flexibility of the sheet allows the force required to stop the egg to be spread out over time enough that the egg will not break.

Hints:

It's a BYOE (bring your own egg) exercise or request full 24 hours prior to the lecture.
Don't miss the sheet!

Equipment:

  • Egg
  • Sheet
