PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Coupled Electrical Oscillators

Purpose:

To demonstrate damping of two coupled oscillatory systems.

Procedure:

Set up the circuit as shown below. Set signal generator to square wave and run through frequency ranges until resonance is found. (Resonance is the point at which the amplitude of the output is maximum.) Note the damping effect.

Hints:

Use 1 .1 mf capacitor, 2 .47 mf capacitors, 1 10k 1/4W resistor and 4.25 MH air core copper coil inductor

Equipment:

  • Signal Generator
  • Oscilloscope
  • Alligator Clips
  • 3 Capacitor
  • 1 Resistor
  • 2 Inductor
