PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

SETUP: Show that the copper disc swings freely back and forth when there's no magnetic field present. The motion of disc is now drastically damped when it enters the region between the magnet poles. Alternatively one can use the cut pendulum to demonstrate that there's very little damping when currents are not allowed to flow.

Equipment:

  • Large Horseshoe Magnet
  • Copper Disc Pendula
