PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

SETUP: A pendulum whose bob is a strong Ni/Fe/B magnet is suspended closely over a copper plate. When the bob is pulled back and released, its motion is immediately damped by eddy currents formed in the copper plate.

Equipment:

  • Alligator Clips
  • Stand
  • copper plate
  • Small Cylindrical NiFeB Magnet
