PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

SETUP:

Turn on the power supply. Voltage should be set to about to 2.5 kV. Use a bar magnet to deflect the beam. Take the opportunity to illustrate the right hand rule using both poles of the magnet. Remember, electrons are negatively charged!

Hints:

In PHS 203, turn the chalkboard lights ON and turn OFF the first two rows of fluorescent lights, then the electron beam spot is more visible via Camera/West.

Equipment:

  • Bar magnet
  • Heathkit oscilloscope
