PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Distortion Loops

Purpose:

To illustrate Newton's third law.

Procedure:

When one loop is pushed against the other, both loops distort the same amount, thus showing the law of action - reaction.

Hints:

Push on the outside ring with larger area body part, like an entire length of a finger or palm of a hand. This way the outside ring is not distorted at the poking point.

Equipment:

  • 2 Steel Distortion Loops.
