PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Meissner Effect (diamagnetic levitation)

Purpose:

A well known illustration of a superconductor acting as perfectly diamagnetic.

Procedure:

Pour LN2 into the small Styrofoam container containing the superconductor. The magnet may be placed on the superconductor before cooling if desired. Once cooled, the magnet will float above the superconducting disk.
