video - Motion of Center of MassPurpose:To show that the center of mass of a system remains at rest if no external forces act upon it.Procedure: Lay track across scales as shown. Add weights to one car and engage catch between cars as they rest in the middle of the track. Release the catch and observe scale readings as cars move towards ends of track. The readings change little or not at all until one of the cars reaches the end of the track and stops. Draw conclusions as to the motion of the center of mass of the system. Equipment:
