PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Piezoelectricity

Purpose:

To demonstrate electric charge build up in a crystal under pressure.

Procedure:

Connect neon bulb to the terminals of the device and press on the lever. The bulb conducts one way and as pressure on the lever is released, it conducts the other way. Also, the terminal points may be adjusted to about 1/4" and a spark discharge can be observed.

Equipment:

  • Piezoelectric Demonstrator
  • NE-2 neon bulb
