PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Sound Intensity

Purpose:

To show the measurement of sound levels and explain the decibel scale used in sound intensity.

Procedure:

Use scale "A" on the meter as this is the scale that responds like the human ear. The slow button slows the integration time of the meters response and may be used if desired. Point the meter at the class and have them talk loudly at first and then in hushed tones. Other noises can be made first at random and then in unison.

Equipment:

  • Sound Level Meter
