Electric Lines of Force

Purpose:

To show the direction of the electric field between two parallel, charged, plates.

Procedure:

Set pointers between plates and connect each plate to an electrode of the Wimshurst machine. Observe the alignment of the pointers when the machine is cranked.

Wimshurst Machine
Aluminum pointers on stands
Parallel Metal Plates
