Convection Chimney

Purpose:

To demonstrate the principles of the convection chimney.

Procedure:

Set up the chimney apparatus and connect it to a small 6V battery. After placing a source of smoke (incense or large match) above the clear chimney, convection currents can be seen. The smoke in the clear chimney is dragged down and the heated chimney lets the smoke out.

Equipment:

6 or 12 V battery
