Purpose:

To illustrate convection in liquids.

Procedure:

Set up the convection box filled with water in view of the portable light projector. Connect the leads of the box's heating element to a small 12V battery and project the image on the wall. Observe the convection patterns.

Hints:

The heater coil draws a lot of current from the 6V car battery. Use short lengths of large gauge wire that can handle high current. Note: wires will get warm/hot.

  • 6 or 12 V battery
