video - Longitudinal Waves

Purpose:

To demonstrate the propagation of longitudinal waves via a set of rolling "magnet discs" and a large coil "slinky".

Procedure:

The plastic rollers have magnets inside which cause them to repel each other when oriented properly. Pushing a magnet on one end will cause a longitudinal wave to propagate towards the opposite end.
