Archimedes' Principle II

Purpose:

To demonstrate the density variation of water with temperature.

Procedure:

Place ball in beaker of cold water. The ball has a slight positive buoyancy and will just float. When the water is heated with the bunsen burner its density decreases and the ball consequently sinks.

Equipment:

  • Beaker
  • Bunsen burner
  • Ring Stand
  • Water
  • Weighted ball
