Thin Lenses with Objects

Purpose:

To demonstrate the geometrical optics of thins lenses with 3D objects.

Procedure:

Light up 3 distinctly shaped light sources (long and tall, long and short and round) and set them up at the edge of the bench. Position the optical bench about 2 m away. Set up a lens in question in front of a ground glass screen and position a camera behind the screen. Demonstrate the usual geometrical optics things, formation of the various images, focal length of a lens, inversion of an image etc. etc.

Equipment:

  • 10 inch single filament lamp
  • 10 cm Lens and stand
  • 20 cm Lens and stand
  • Ground Glass Screen
  • Round Filament Lamp
