Water Light Pipe

Purpose:

To demonstrate the transmission of light in a thin stream of water by total internal reflection.

Procedure:

Fill jar with water and cover with cap. Lower the room lights. Turn on flashlight and tilt so that a small stream of water escapes from the hole in the cap. Placing your hand in the stream of water will show that light is being transmitted.
