Steal the Light

Purpose:

To demonstrate the total internal reflection phenomenon.

Procedure:

Get any of the total internal reflection/fiber optics toys and demonstrate the total internal reflection with a laser pointer while fiber is in the air. Dip the fiber optics or part of it into a vegetable oil (with n close to the one of the fiber) and see that the signal no longer totally reflects.
