PLEASE REQUEST DEMOS WELL IN ADVANCE

Due to Physics Building renovations, the lead time to set up demo requests has increased due to the need to transport equipment across campus. Please be kind and let me know well ahead of time what you need.

Thermometer Collection

Purpose:

To demonstrate various kind of thermometers and physical principles allowing to measure temperature.

Procedure:

Our collection includes but is not limited to regular mercury or alcohol expansion thermometers, show and tell bimetallic strip thermostats w/ mercury switches, gas ball (using ideal gas law and pressure measurement to deduce the temperature), thermistors (resistance strongly dependent on temperature materials, usually w/ negative coefficient), bi-metal thermocouples (voltage difference dependent on temperature) etc.
