Magnetic Deflection of an Electron Beam

Purpose:

To demonstrate that an electron in a magnetic field experiences a force.

Procedure:

Turn on the power supply and adjust the voltage to 1-2 kV. Use the bar magnet to deflect the beam. Take the opportunity to illustrate the right hand rule using both poles of the magnet (remember, electrons are negatively charged!).
