Attraction and Repulsion Between Charged Objects

Purpose:

To demonstrate some properties of charged objects.

Procedure:

Charge the pith balls with either the teflon or acrylic rod and show attraction and repulsion. Balance 2"x4" on watch glass to provide low friction pivot. Charge rod with fur and hold close to the 2x4 with the rod parallel to the long axis of the 2x4, which will then rotate on the watch glass.
